Why Stagnant Isn't Really A Thing

Updated: Nov 3, 2022

As humans, we are dynamic in the most complicated of ways.

We are never stagnant. We are constantly changing...sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. It’s fascinating to me that we talk about humans as though we are always the same. We say, “He has a lot of money,” even though money is always flowing in and out of our lives. It's never the same. He may have a lot of money today but he may not tomorrow. Just like someone with very little money can have a lot in an instant. That is all possible. Money is a very dynamic and moving part of our lives. We say, “I weigh 150 pounds” even though we don’t weigh the same from one day to the next or even from one minute to the next. Our bodies change. They hold onto weight and water and other things to accommodate our health and they let go of those things to adapt to other things that come up. Our weight is constantly changing.

We do this the most with ourselves.

Here are some statements that we say a lot as Enneagram Nines:

“I’m a procrastinator.”

"I'm not good at making decisions."

"My opinion doesn't matter anyway."

"I'm just not good at confronting people."

"I don't stay motivated with anything I try."

"I'm not good at asking for help."

"I'm an over-thinker."

"I always just try to blend in."

We say these things about ourselves as though we just are this way.

But we must remember that we are never any of these things all the time.

We change.

We adapt.

Sometimes we step into that "Healthy Three" part of us and we're rock stars and other times we look and feel more like an "Unhealthy Six."
